On April 14, 2022, the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) nuclear power plant in Pickering obtained approval from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks to utilize the OSS Oil in Water Test Method. This approval provides all OPG sites across Ontario the ability to eliminate the need for solvents to measure oil in their effluent water. This OSS patented technology is faster, safer, more environmentally friendly and more capable than the traditional solvent extraction method.

This important milestone was achieved through the dedicated effort of OPG personnel, with direct support from OSS. The reaction throughout OPG to the approval of the OSS technology has been very positive, with Adam Cochrane, FLM (Acting) of the Pickering Chemistry Lab, commenting, “This is a massive win for the company as well as for future companies to adopt this method.” James Jones, Human Performance Manager, noted, “This is an industry first for innovation and safety in an important regulatory analysis.”
